Travel with our mentors and try out all of the latest equipment from Nikon! Including world class digital SLRs, Nikkor lenses and the Coolpix line of Digital Cameras.
We headed then on to Caesars Head to trek to the lookout point and watch the sun go behind the Blue Ridge Mountains. We were able to photograph an extraordinary sunset, but also use the light as subject for some interesting detail shots. We stayed until it was dark and experimented with some longer exposures and capturing a gorgeous fall moon. That night, back at the hotel, we had a workflow class. Afterwards, a few of us discovered a Halloween party going on at the hotel, which provided some fantastic unique opportunities for people photography in some pretty outlandish costumes! The next morning began early with a trip to Camden for their annual Revolutionary Days - quite an event and it provides the kid-in-a-candy-store feeling for any inspired photographer. Re-enactors and their families set up authentic camp and were friendly and open to being photographed. We wandered around and visited with the participants while capturing details and environmental portraits and learned more about working with available light. Then the battle started and a beautiful historic home provided the backdrop. The participants take it very seriously which allowed for some amazing photos. I had never seen anything quite like it. We went next to Musgrove Mill and focused on the awesome fall color in the Upstate. Many of us found unbelievable reflections in the ponds as the sunlight came through the woods. We headed next to a glorious seafood dinner and had a nice private room to eat and talk about the day and of course share thoughts on photography. Later at the hotel, after we went through our work with the mentors, Tom showed us how to lightpaint into the night, using a colorful drink tray as the subject. The next morning we explored downtown Greenville - photographing Liberty Falls Bridge and Park and learned how to make the waterfalls appear silky and reflect the morning light. Our trek ended with a final digital review and a slideshow where we shared work and were able to see each other's efforts from the weekend. It was a fabulous weekend in the South Carolina upstate, and no doubt we all learned an enormous amount, while making new friends. |
